Hillary Clinton quotes Meghan Markle on Instagram: 'Women don't need to find a voice'

Hillary Clinton is still a fan of Meghan Markle, quoting the duchess on social media.

On Thursday, the former secretary of state took to Instagram to share the quote: “Women don’t need to find a voice. They have a voice. They need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.”

Meghan made the statements in February 2018 at the Royal Foundation Forum in the context of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements, adding, “...There’s no better time to really continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people really helping support them, men included in that...”

During the panel discussion, the former Suits star sat alongside husband Prince Harry as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

It’s known that Clinton and Meghan respect one another— the two reportedly caught up in November when Meghan invited Clinton to Frogmore Cottage, her and Prince Harry’s primary residence in Windsor, where they hugged and Clinton snagged cuddle time with baby Archie, now 8 months.

They also reportedly connected about a now-publicized letter that Meghan, then 11, wrote to Procter & Gamble, the company behind an Ivory soap ad with the tagline "Women are fighting greasy pots and pans.” Meghan, who also sent letters to then-First Lady Clinton and others, felt it was sexist.

"I don't think it's right for kids to grow up thinking these things, that just mom does everything," said a tween Meghan in an old television clip. "It's always, 'Mom does this, and mom does that.'" Markle requested that the company swap the word “Women” for “People all over America” and Procter & Gamble obliged.

In November, Clinton also praised Meghan as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex filed lawsuits against the Mail on Sunday and its parent company Associated Newspapers for alleging the couple used taxpayer money for home renovations and for “unlawfully” publishing a private letter from Meghan to her father Thomas Markle about their fraught relationship.

“I have a great deal of feeling toward and about her because it’s one thing to be told what it will be like when you step onto the biggest stage with the brightest spotlight, joining the royal family, becoming president or first lady and his family in our country,” said Clinton on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“And yet it’s still is really hard to imagine,” she added. “It takes some getting used to, to have your every move scrutinized and analyzed, and frankly things made up about. And I really wish her and her husband the very best, because they are struggling to have a life of meaning and integrity on their own terms...”

Pressure could be one reason for “Megxit,” Meghan and Prince Harry’s plan to step away from royal life, which they explained on Instagram earlier the month. The decision, and the couple’s subsequent move to Canada, where they are reportedly living in a $14M waterfront home — has shaken up royal culture and mass media.

During her interview, Clinton said that gender and race are reasons why Meghan has been a public target, calling her treatment “heartbreaking and wrong.” She said, “You know people don’t choose who they fall in love with — they fall in love.” Clinton also called Meghan “an amazing young woman” adding “...as a mother, I just want to put my arms around her...Oh my god, I want to hug her!”
