Hitler's speech cards auctioned in Munich

Adolf Hitler's speaking notes went under the hammer at a Munich auction house on Friday (October 23).

The collection of post-1919 historical artefacts has attracted attention because of the large number of memorabilia linked to the Nazi leader.

The man responsible for some of the worst crimes in history - the genocide of 6 million European Jews.

Here's Bernhard Pacher, manager of the auctioneers:

"He used the cards for various speeches he held in front of officer cadets, the Reich labour service, the women's union, the opening of the winter aid charity or the Nuremberg Nazi party convention in 1937. They show that essential parts which were important to him were very carefully planned in order to make the speech dramatic."

Apart from the speech cards, the collection contains pots with his initials as well as copies of his books.

Pacher denied that the objects would end up in the hands of neo-Nazis or sympathizers.

He said only museums and "private collectors" could afford them.

But sales prices clearly showed more interest in relics closely associated with the wartime leader's crimes.

The set of cue cards bearing the phrase "Jewish problem", for a 1939 speech to graduating army officers, sold for 34,000 euros - that's over $40,000.
