HK directors and screenwriters urge HK govt to restore order

26 Jul – The Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild and the Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild have recently released a joint-statement condemning the violent attack at the Yuen Long MTR Station that occurred on 21 July.

As reported on Mingpao, in a statement released on 24 July, the two associations expressed their disappointment and fury over the tragic incident, and expressed their demand for an establishment of an independent investigation committee.

"This organisation would like to urge the Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government to immediately set up an independent investigation to restore the truth of various disputes over the past months, to return justice for all, and settle public rage."

"This organisation also urges the Chief Executive to immediately - according to the Legislative Council rules - withdraw to terminate the bill and end all dispute over wording. Such political problems should be politically resolved," it added.

The two organisations also stated that they are looking forward to Chief Executive Carrie Lam, the government and the Hong Kong Police to get back on track of servicing the public.

On 21 July, a group of white shirt-wearing mob stormed into the said MTR station and assaulted people indiscriminately with sticks and iron rod. Their targets, it is said, are the black-clad demonstrators returning from the march in protest of the HKSAR government's extradition bill.
