Holby City kicks off Essie Di Lucca's sad story
Holby City nurse Essie Di Lucca will have her life turned upside down all over again when she attends her six-month cancer check-up tonight (March 31).
The BBC medical drama has already confirmed that Essie's cancer will return in a dark new storyline, which will kick off in Tuesday's sad episode.
Essie is tense as she waits for her CT scan, unlike a positive Sacha – who is buoyed by his private plans to propose to her.
Wanting to spare Sacha the worry, Essie asks Dom to be by her side at the appointment, after they make amends following their recent fallout.
Dom is happy to stand by Essie in her time of need, but is later faced with an impossible dilemma when he spots a new tumour on the scan.
When Dom is unable to hide his devastation from Essie, she quickly realises what's going on and is left reeling from the news.

The return of Essie's cancer will coincide with Fletch's own cancer storyline, when he is also given a life-changing diagnosis in the coming weeks.
Kaye Wragg, who plays Essie, said: "Showing the real struggle of two nurses sharing an illness together yet being alone in their own torture of what their futures hold is Holby at its best."
She added: "Being immersed in the world of this disease is something I've had many experiences with as myself, so there's no shortage of empathy and understanding for my character and for Fletch's.
"It's a tough watch, but it will resonate for many sufferers and their loved ones going through traumatic illnesses. Throughout their journeys, Essie and Fletch discover their worst fears, their lost opportunities and what futures they need to make plans for."
Holby City airs these scenes tonight (March 31) at 8pm on BBC One.
