KUALA LUMPUR: French president François Hollande has arrived at Parliament here for the official welcoming ceremony by the Malaysian government today.

Hollande, who is on a two-day state visit to Malaysia starting yesterday, arrived at 9.30am.

Welcoming him at the Parliament square was Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.

Present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and other Cabinet members.

A 21-gun salute was fired as the King, Hollande and Najib stepped up to the ceremonial stage at the square.

Malaysia and France national anthems "Negara Ku" and "La Marseillaise" were played by the brass band from the Army Royal Malay Regiment.

Hollande later inspected the guard of honour mounted by the Army Royal Malay Regiment.

He was then introduced to Malaysian ministers and members of the diplomatic corps before leaving the parliament.
