Hollyoaks Favourites left viewers with one of the soap's most notorious cliffhangers on Friday night (June 5).

The three classic episodes this week have all been from Halloween 2011, when serial killer Silas Blissett (Jeff Rawle) was finally apprehended following a reign of terror throughout the village.

This three-parter kicked off with Silas accidentally killing his own daughter Heidi Costello (Kim Tiddy) in a case of mistaken identity at the fancy dress party, then spiralling into a quest for revenge.

The murderer kidnapped Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe), but was cornered by her fiancé (and Silas's grandson) Riley Costello (Rob Norbury) — setting up an emotional revelation for Riley that Silas had killed his mum.

Friday's Hollyoaks Favourites left off with Silas being arrested, but refusing to reveal what he'd done with Mercedes. Unfortunately, current viewers won't actually get any resolution because it's back to new Hollyoaks episodes on Monday (June 8).

But we can fill in the blanks for you! Viewers had left off with Silas demanding to see his arch-nemesis Lynsey Nolan (Karen Hassan), as he planned to challenge her for a game of chess, with Mercy's whereabouts at stake.

"If you want to find Mercedes McQueen, there's one last game to play," he warned.

Though Lynsey refused to play by Silas' rules, she was ultimately able to outsmart the cerebral killer by insulting him — and tricked him into revealing that he'd left Mercedes helpless in the gutter!

Riley rushed to rescue Mercy just in time, while Lynsey got her catharsis by telling Silas that she no longer feared him!

Though the 2011 storyline made it appear as if Silas would spend the rest of his life in prison, soaps never usually work that way. He would escape around the time of Lynsey's murder by Doctor Browning, and then reappeared again in 2016 to join forces with (and later kill) The Gloved Hand Killer, aka Lindsey Butterfield (Sophie Austin).

Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 will feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites to compensate for the soap suspending filming.
