Jesse Donovan (Luke Jerdy) now knows the truth about Mercedes McQueen's shooting in Hollyoaks.

He discovered that Grace Black (Tamara Wall) and James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) both shot Mercy (Jennifer Metcalfe) in a shocking first-look episode on Friday (January 17).

It was supposed to be a joyous day for Jesse's family as he tied the knot with his long-time love Courtney Campbell (Amy Conachan).

Jesse gathered Grace and Liam (Jude Monk McGowan) to show them Adam's old cufflinks as a reminder that they should never keep secrets from one another again, with the other two agreeing.

"I don't want to bury another brother or sister," he told them in a poignant moment.

Soon after, Grace went into panic mode when she had to convince James not to confess to police — since he now knows Breda actually murdered Harry, not Mercedes.

"The guilt of shooting Mercedes is killing me," he admitted.

Though she was able to persuade James to keep his mouth shut, Jesse overheard the entire conversation! He then threatened Grace with going to police, since she'd already violated their promise for no more secrets.

Grace begged Jesse not to put her behind bars, insisting: "Jesse, I promise you, it's over!"

"I won't go to the police. They don't need to know, for now. Sylver does," Jesse ultimately threatened.

During his wedding vows, Jesse took another shot at Grace by promising Courtney and Iona that he would never let the darkness of his family's past consume their happy home.

"I promise our marriage will be filled with love, goodness and laughter," he vowed.

Luke Jerdy had hinted at Jesse discovering the shooting revelation earlier this week, when he revealed that the wedding would become "tainted" in some way.

Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
