Hollyoaks' Sid Sumner to suffer life-changing injury in new storyline

From Digital Spy

Hollyoaks' issue-led County Lines storyline is set to have devastating consequences for Sid Sumner, after he suffers a life-changing injury.

The storyline, which Hollyoaks is working on alongside The Children's Society, will change Sid's life "forever" as he is hospitalised for taking a dangerous amount of ketamine and seriously hurting himself while unaware of his surroundings.

In upcoming scenes, Sid's ongoing involvement with the county lines drug dealing will turn even darker when, feeling at his lowest, heart-broken and rejected, he turns to drugs as a last resort to numb his pain.

Viewers have seen Sid (Billy Price) and Juliet Nightingale (Niamh Blackshaw) manipulated and groomed into dealing drugs to students in the village in recent episodes – and recruiting younger children to join them.

Opening up about Sid's involvement in the scheme, orchestrated by his cousin Jordan, actor Billy Price warned that his character's involvement within county lines is set to go "deeper".

"Sid still is and may always be head over heels for Juliet, although she doesn't see him in that way. With Juliet climbing the ranks, their involvement within county lines is dug deeper," he said.

"The stakes are higher, and the consequences are dearer."

Hinting at a dramatic turn in Sid and Juliet's relationship, he added: "Sid always seems to get himself into the worst situations, and can never catch a break, however, as we have seen over the past few months, Sid always sticks up for the people he cares for, although this time, his actions have consequences, which will change his life forever."

Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
