Hollyoaks star reveals what happened to Ste Hay after he left the village

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks' Kieron Richardson has revealed what Ste Hay has been up to since he left the village.

Ahead of the character's shock return, which will see him come face-to-face with the damage his involvement with a far-right group did before he left, the actor explained to Inside Soap that Ste "had to take himself out of the situation and evaluate his life" and that things haven't been easy for him since he's been gone.

"He moved to Newcastle and got a job, although when his employer found out about his past, he was sacked," Richardson said, before noting that the loss of work caused Ste to become homeless.

"Even off-screen, Ste's very much been living with the consequences of his actions."

When he steps foot back in the Chester suburb, the first people Ste will encounter is his niece Yazz (Haiesha Mistry), whose hearing has worsened since the terrorist attack explosion one of her uncle's old extremist "pals" helped orchestrate, and her new fiancé Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins). It's set to prove a daunting experience for Ste, who is still struggling to overcome his guilt.

Later, he arrives home, shocking the Lomaxes, and vows to get them back on his side despite everything that happened.

"Ultimately, I think they're happy to see him. They were willing to accept him before but Ste kind of ran away," said Richardson. "The trouble is, that's it's not just Tony [Hutchinson] now that Ste has to win around. [He] has to convince everyone who owns the Hutch that he's worthy of a job there, and it doesn't go very well.

"Ste's hoping that the whole village will forgive him eventually, because while what he did was horrendous, he was groomed – let's just hope he learned from it all."

Will he manage it?
