Honeymoon in the Seychelles like Will and Kate

Honeymoon in the Seychelles like Will and Kate

Would you pay £4,000 (or S$8,500) a night for your honeymoon? The answer would be yes… if you were Will and Kate. The royal couple reportedly paid this much when they holidayed in Seychelles in 2011.

It’s supposed to be worth every penny: Set in the Indian Ocean just east of Africa and north of Madagascar, the destination features spectacular turquoise waters, plus an array of sights and activities, to make your trip wholly memorable and exciting.

So if, like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, you also have the money to plan a romantic trip to the islands, here’s what you can expect:

• Getting there from Singapore is an adventure in itself, with transits in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Mumbai, depending on the airline you fly. Of course, if you want to do it like the royals, go all the way and splurge on nothing less than a private jet.

• Once you land at the airport on the largest Seychelles island of Mahé, you’d want to hop on a helicopter for a spectacular aerial introduction to the islands on the way to your resort. Or there’s always the boat to get some island-hopping done, since the Seychelles is an archipelago of more than 100 islands.

• Each of the most popular islands boasts something different. Mahé has the capital city of Victoria, while Praslin is home to the majestic palm forests of Vallée De Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage site. La Digue, another major island, exudes an almost prehistoric vibe with giant granite boulders along the beach of Anse Source d'Argent.

• You can enjoy diving, snorkelling, sailing or just plain lazing around on stretches of white sand. For honeymooners who want privacy, know that the islands are lined with secluded beaches.

• Follow the lead of Will and Kate and head there in May. Winds pick up from May to September, and the usually balmy evenings might be cooler. Otherwise, expect warm, humid weather like Singapore. Try to avoid the rainy season from November to January.

• Lastly, take the time and effort to arrange for a romantic sunset cruise, and even throw in a surprise champagne picnic on the beach. After all, that’s what Will did for Kate.
