Horton Township boater dead after going over waterfall

A Horton Township, Ont., resident is dead after his boat went over the Bonnechere Falls Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene along Thompson Road just before 9:00 p.m. after reports that a man in a small boat had gone over the falls.

Police said the 82-year-old man's body was located in the water, downstream from the falls.

He was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.

He had not been wearing a life jacket, according to police.

The man's 59-year-old son also went over the falls in a kayak while searching for his father. He was not seriously hurt but was transported to hospital as a precaution, police said.
