Fans of the meal replacement brand Huel (available in powder, drink and bar form) will already know the brand's premise is based on stripping food back to the basics of nutrition. The company say that Huel alone could fulfil all of the body’s nutritional needs if you were to switch to a diet exclusively based around the product – but of course, as registered dietitian Helen Gardiner previously told Cosmopolitan UK: "I would suggest that it could be used, if necessary, for up to one or two meals a day, maybe a few times a week, as part of a healthy balanced diet. But I would recommend using it much less than this if possible."

Gardiner added, "Nutritionally balanced powdered foods like Huel can be a convenient and useful meal replacement, when it's difficult to get a nutritionally balanced meal using other foods, for whatever reason. When in a hurry, they're preferable to a meal made up of convenient snack foods, which may be nutritionally poor and high in fat, sugar and/or salt."

So, responsibly armed with the facts, for those who are keen to try Huel (but aren't a fan of sweet flavous) or who are already fans of the brand (and boy, are there some die-hard fans out there – we see you, Hueligans) but want something new – this news should be most welcome.

Huel are now offering two new savoury options, both of which are ready in under five minutes and are designed to be enjoyed hot: Thai Green Curry and Tomato & Herb. Rumour also has it there's another flavour is in the works that's set to drop before the end of the year... so keep an eye peeled for that, folks.

A Huel spokesperson told Cosmopolitan UK: "The new concept is set to redefine quick and healthy lunches either at home or in the office. Launching in two delicious flavours, spicy Thai Green Curry and tasty Tomato and Herb, Huel Hot & Savoury provides a solution for those that want nutritious food that is easy to make and affordable. Each 100% vegan meal is bursting with flavour and costs around £2.36, which is great value considering it provides 100% complete nutrition - vital for good health during these testing times."

Each of the new Huel flavour pouches contain seven meals priced from £2.36 based on 400kcal servings, but they say there's flexibility for meals to be tailored to the customer's preferred size. The new recipes are made from whole foods and natural ingredients such as lentils, rice and quinoa.

Naturally, it goes without saying, if you're planning on making any major changes to your diet it's always best to consult with your GP or a qualified dietician/nutritionist beforehand.
