Huge bear squeezes in one last back scratch against tree before hibernation

image

This bear might be ready to go into hibernation - but managed to squeeze in one more big back scratch before a long sleep over the winter.

The large beast was caught on camera leaning up against a tree to get to that hard-to-reach spot on his back before then moving on after scratching the itch.

The footage, taken in Washington’s Okanogan district, was released by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife and has already been viewed nearly 80,000 times.

The department shared the video on Thursday with the caption: “This fat bear is about ready for hibernation but got in one more back-scratching session in front of the trail camera that our Okanogan district wildlife biologist Scott Fitkin regularly monitors.”

The video, taken at night, shows the bear walking up to the tree then rising to its feet to enjoy a lengthy rub against the trunk, before dropping to all fours and ambling off into the undergrowth.
