Manchester United have been given a brilliant opportunity to sign a Barcelona player at less than half his previous transfer value after the Spanish giants reportedly decided to let him leave.

Barca are still battling financial problems and must sell one or two players this summer to try and balance the books. Premier League teams have the most financial power right now and this means we could see a couple of Barca stars swap Spain for England ahead of next season.

Man Utd would love to sign midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Barca. But he appears set to reject their advances for a second time, having already done so last summer.

It is more likely wingers Raphinha and Ansu Fati will leave the Camp Nou. According to Friday’s Transfer Gossip, Chelsea have ramped up their pursuit of ex-Leeds star Raphinha.

While he could move to Stamford Bridge, Fati is a target for Erik ten Hag at Man Utd.

The winger has spent large parts of the previous two seasons out injured. He returned to fitness earlier this campaign and was hoping to get his career back on the right path by making a big impact under manager Xavi.

Despite a bright start to the season, Fati’s influence on Barca has gradually waned. He is now struggling to get into their starting eleven and is relying on late substitute appearances for game time.

According to Sport Witness, who cite reports coming out of Spain, Fati’s transfer value is dropping dramatically. Man Utd were quoted at an astonishing €100m when beginning initial talks with Barca for the attacker back in 2020.

Barca to accept cut-price offer for Ansu Fati

But now, his price tag has more than halved. Barca have decided they will let him go this summer if an offer worth around €35m (£31m) arrives.

This gives Ten Hag the opportunity to land a long-term Man Utd transfer target at a fraction of his previous cost.

It must be noted that Fati would ideally like to stay where he is. He has a strong bond with Barca after coming through their academy setup and then forcing his way into the senior squad.

But if Xavi cannot provide him with regular minutes going forward, then he will have no choice but to push for an exit.

Man Utd signing the Spain international does represent a big risk. After all, he has been riddled with injuries in recent years and this has led to his development stalling.

But signing Fati for £31m could prove to be a masterstroke if Ten Hag gets the best out of him and helps him to reach his full potential. And at 20 years old, there is plenty of time for Fati to do just that.

Plus, Ten Hag is great at developing players. Just look at what he has done for Marcus Rashford at Man Utd.

Fati is not at the top of Man Utd’s summer objectives, as Ten Hag is determined to land a new striker and central midfielder. But this is certainly a transfer link to keep an eye on, with Fati facing an uncertain future in Catalonia.

Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez has reportedly urged Chelsea to sign a £70m player ahead of Man Utd.
