Huge vegetation fire at Marina East; man's body found at Woodlands housing block

SINGAPORE — The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to a vegetation fire near Marina East Drive at about 8.50pm on Monday evening (12 August).

The fire was approximately the size of two football fields, and photos of the huge blaze were circulated on social media.

SCDF said that it deployed about 50 firefighters, seven water jets and 12 emergency vehicles to put out the fire.

The blaze was eventually brought under control at 10.30pm. There are no reported injuries.

Unnatural death at Woodlands

Meanwhile, a man’s body was found near the rubbish chute area on the ground floor of a Woodlands HDB block on Monday.

Police said that they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at 12.05pm at Block 677, Woodlands Avenue 6.

A 64-year-old man was found motionless and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, police added.

Investigations are ongoing.
