IKEA has issued a recall on the Patrull, Patrull Klama and Patrull fast safety gates following reports of children falling down stairs after the gates opened unexpectedly, with some cases requiring medical attention.

Although no incidents have been reported in Singapore, the furniture retail company have urged customers in a post on it’s Facebook page on Thursday (23 June), “to immediately stop using the safety gates and bring them back to any IKEA store for a full refund.“

“We have zero tolerance regarding child safety…We cannot accept that there is a risk of injury while playing and as an immediate precautionary action we recall all Patrull safety gates,” Maria Thorn, Acting Business Area Manager at Children’s IKEA said in the statement.

IKEA said a third party investigation has shown that the safety gates’ locking mechanism is not reliable, posing a risk for young children.

No proof of purchase is required for the refunds.
