Immigration confirms Pua deported from Sarawak

MIRI: Opposition member of parliament Tony Pua was deported to Kuala Lumpur some six hours after arriving here yesterday.

The DAP publicity chief arrived here at 9.30am and was supposed to attend a forum at Seberkas Commercial Centre in Jalan Pujut-Lutong here last night.

It was learnt that the Petaling Jaya Utara member of parliament was picked up by Immigration officers at a restaurant in Lutong here.

Sarawak Immigration Department deputy director Hamfatullah Syawal Hamdan, when contacted, confirmed the matter.

However, he declined to comment further.

Sources in the department confirmed that Pua returned to Kuala Lumpur via a 4.20pm flight.

“It has been confirmed that the Petaling Jaya Utara MP had left for Kuala Lumpur from Miri Airport at 4.20pm.”

A number of opposition MPs had been barred from entering the state, including Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and Batu MP Tian Chua.
