MANILA, Philippines — PBA partylist representative Jericho Jonas Nograles believes the impeachment complaint filed against President Rodrigo Duterte will have no impact on the Philippine economy.
Nograles explained that even in previous administrations when a president faces a similar complaint, its effect had not been felt in the stock market, foreign exchange and even in the balance of trade.
Proof of this, the lawmaker said, is the strong Philippine economy.
“What affects our economy, what affects our market are issue likes tax reform; issues like whether or not the Bureau of Internal Revenue will file cases against certain companies. These are the things that affect our economy and not impeachment cases,” clarified Nograles.
He further noted that the filing of an impeachment complaint is a political process that he says, is sometimes being abused – citing as an example the case of President Duterte. — Victor Cosare | UNTV News and Rescue
