Incredible Erling Haaland to Man Utd claim emerges, as mind-boggling transfer fee named
A remarkable transfer claim involving Erling Haaland that’ll have Man Utd fans up in arms has come to light.
The Norwegian striker has surpassed what were already incredibly high expectations in his first season in England.
Haaland has broken the all-time goalscoring record over a single season in the Premier League. With four games still to go, Haaland will fancy his chances of pushing his tally of 35 strikes up to and beyond the 40 mark.
Elsewhere, Haaland was recently named FWA Player of the Year with an incredible 82 percent of the vote.
Aged just 22, Man City are set in the centre-forward department for the next decade – providing Haaland remains happy at the Etihad, of course.
However, according to quotes from former Man Utd boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Haaland’s situation could’ve been so very different.
Speaking to the Sun, Solskjaer claimed he personally called Man Utd and urged his former club to snap up Haaland six months before he took charge as manager.
Solskjaer was managing Norwegian side Molde in the summer of 2018. Haaland was leading the line as his centre-forward aged just 17 at the time.
However, Solskjaer revealed Man Utd “didn’t listen” to his recommendation and by the time he was installed at Old Trafford in December of 2018, Haaland had already been sold to RB Salzburg.
Even more frustrating for Man Utd fans is Solskjaer’s claim the tiny sum of just £4m could’ve secured Haaland’s signature at the time of his phonecall.
Solskjaer called, but Man Utd didn’t listen
Solskjaer said: “I called United about six months before I took over and told them that I’d got this striker that we had but they didn’t listen.
“I asked for £4million for Haaland but they didn’t sign him.”
Haaland would ultimately go on to join Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and then Man City. The blue half of Manchester paid £51.2m to sign Haaland thanks to a release clause in his Dortmund contract.
However, in lieu of his outrageous form this season, the Sun claim Haaland is now the world’s most valuable striker thanks to a £200m valuation.
Had United listened to their club legend five years prior, it could’ve been the Red Devils benefitting from Haaland’s generational goalscoring talents, not Man City.
