Indonesia’s Bukalapak acquihires second-handed stuff marketplace Prelo

In its latest strategic move, Bukalapak acquihires the fellow Indonesian startup’s talents to join its team

Talents from Prelo, an Indonesian startup that lets people sell and buy second-handed stuff online, now belongs to Bukalapak, the online store platform.

As reported by DailySocial, Prelo’s founder Fransiska Hadiwidjana is now Bukalapak Head of Business.

As for Prelo, there is no information yet on whether it will continue operation after this acquihire. The platform itself is still accessible today.

“We didn’t acquire Prelo; we just acquired the talents behind the company to join us in Bukalapak. We couldn’t comment any further on our future strategy for now,” said Bukalapak Chief Strategy Officer Teddy Oetomo.

In the past, Bukalapak has already done a similar talent acquisition move. M. Fajrin Rasyid, the company’s Co-Founder and President, confirmed that Bukalapak had acquired some software houses by hiring only the talents.

It is considered strategic for Bukalapak to acquihire the Bandung-based Prelo, a C2C marketplace that guarantees the originality of the goods on their platform by accepting only second-handed goods.

This year, Bukalapak has also opened a new R&D centre in Bandung.
