Indonesian club Persib Bandung continues to make waves with their off-season signings, this time snapping up former England international Carlton Cole.

Cole was officially introduced at the Indonesian club on 30 March. It is the second big-name signing the club has made this month, after signing Cole’s former Chelsea teammate Michael Essien earlier.

Cole, 33, has seven England caps to his name after coming through the ranks at Chelsea. He went on to represent West Ham United, scoring 68 goals in 293 games over nine years before joining Celtic.

He was most recently on the books of America’s United Soccer League club Sacramento Republic, although he left the club after just four games.

In a statement posted on Persib’s website, Cole said that the move was an “incredible” one that reminded him of the time when he first joined Chelsea.

The signing of both Cole and Essien will undoubtedly give a boost to Persib in their quest to win the league title this season. Persib Bandung last won the title in 2014, before the league was halted when the Football Association of Indonesia was suspended by FIFA in 2015.
