Indonesian digital payment services platform OVO appoints new CTO, with focus on growth

The ever-ubiquitous payment, reward, and financial services platform passed the torch of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to Budi Kusmiantoro

Looking to focus on the next phase of growth, the omnipresent digital payment system Ovo announced that it has appointed their new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Budi Kusmiantoro. Furthermore, the appointment is meant to bring Kusmiantoro’s technical expertise to keep up with the recent number one payments platform in Indonesia title it earned.

Previously, Kusmiantoro hailed from the online travel portal Traveloka as the VP Engineering. Before that, he had a stint as an engineering leader in Silicon Valley for companies like Google and Paypal.

On his appointment, Kusmiantoro commented: “I am delighted to take on this role at OVO and work on what might be Indonesia’s toughest challenge: giving SMEs and consumers access to financial services and cashless payments, everywhere in Indonesia. We will now focus on building new services and feature that can make lives easier for SMEs and consumers across Indonesia.”

OVO has seen a rapid growth within less than a year of its launching, with its e-wallet has been downloaded for more than 60 million times and will reach more than 350,000 physical stores in 212 cities soon. The number delivered it to make up 96% of the economy.

A few of business forays that the company has made in the past including strategic partnerships with Bank Mandiri, Alfamart, Grab, and Moka to widen OVO’s reach all over the country as the most accepted mobile payment app.

Before appointing its new CTO, OVO expanded to QR-code payments among Indonesian SMEs, including for warung stalls. OVO was also made available for top-ups using local bank Mandiri ATMs, convenience store chain Alfamart, and Grab for on-demand transportation and food delivery in over 130 cities across Indonesia.
