The upcoming Indonesia Fintech Festival & Conference 2016 (IFFC 2016) will focus on several issues following the rise of fintech industry in Indonesia, including financial inclusion.

“Fintech in Indonesia will become a new media or instrument that will directly face demands from the society, so that the society can access financial services at a more affordable, faster rate,” said Dumoly F. Pardede, Deputy Commissioner of Non-Banking Financial Institutions (NBFIs) Supervision at Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK), during a press conference at OJK headquarter.

“This has been the aspiration of our society,” he stressed.

Held on August 29-30 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, the IFFC 2016 is the result of a collaboration between OJK and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN).

Apart from series of workshops and conference for fintech industry players, the event also aim to produce a white paper that will eventually be developed into a draft regulation for fintech industry, that will be formalised by the end of 2016.

Another special feature of the event is the special guests who are set to attend it. Apart from Indonesia President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who will give a speech at the opening ceremony, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands will also attend the second day of the event in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA).

According to the organising committee, the event has managed to sell up to 2,000 tickets.

Ready to compete

One of the highlights of the IFFC 2016 event is the upcoming startup competition.

“We are working with Indonesia Fintech Association to host this competition,” explained Patrick Walujo, head of technology startup agency within KADIN.

The competition is divided into three main categories based on the duration of the companies’ operation. So far 40 startups have made it through the initial selection process, and the committee is currently selecting the 15 finalists.

The most exciting part for the winning startups is the opportunity to present their works in front of an open audience, which consists of the general public, President Jokowi, and members of the cabinet.

Apart from a startup competition, IFFC 2016 will also feature:

  • A speed dating event;

  • Startup mentoring by industry experts such as Donald Wihardja (Convergence Ventures), Sebastian Togelang (Kejora Group), Philia Wibowo (McKinsey & Co), and Edward Chamdani (Ideosource)

  • An all-day conference presenting speakers such as Darmin Nasution (Coordinating Minister of Economy, Republic of Indonesia), Rudiantara (Minister of Communications and Informatics, Republic of Indonesia), Nadiem Makarim (CEO, Go-Jek), William Tanuwijaya (CEO, Tokopedia), and many more.

The OJK had also cited plan to host the event on an annual basis.
