Inflatable lobster sails in Venice

STORY: The floating model by British contemporary artist Philip Colbert celebrated the launch of his digital project "The Lobstars".

It also marks three days before the start of this year's 59th international art exhibition, the Venice Biennale, on Saturday (April 23).

"The Lobstar's breaking free in Venice is really symbolic to my new digital art project called 'The Lobstars'. I now have a global community of fellow 'Lobstar' avatars," Colbert said.

The giant, colorful crustacean also travelled eighteen miles down the waterway to highlight "the precarious state of the natural world and the need to recognise its fragility", according to the artist.

Often referred to as the "godson of Andy Warhol", according to the artist's press release, Colbert has created a global following for his cartoon Lobster alter ego of pop-art paintings, sculptures and collectibles.
