Injured Boateng targets Euro 2016

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng is sidelined with a groin injury

Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng expressed hope Monday that he would recover from a torn groin muscle injury in time to figure for Germany at Euro 2016. Boateng limped out of Bayern's 2-1 victory at Hamburg on Friday and a scan in Munich revealed the full extent of the problem with the player facing three months on the sidelines. "From now to the European Championships should be enough time," the Germany World Cup winner told Kicker on Monday. Germany coach Joachim Loew says he has backed the 27-year-old to make it to the Euros which get underway in France on June 10. "I spoke with Jerome and told him I believe in him and that he can still get on the train for the Euros," Loew said at a Germany training camp in Munich. He added that he would "leave the door open as long as possible" for Boateng. "Jerome is by nature a fighter and he works in a truly professional fashion, he has the desire and the attitude to make it," Loew added.
