InIand ash scattering (IAS) services will be available at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery Complex in 2020, and at Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium Complex in 2021, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Friday (22 June).
The move is in response to interest from members of the public for such services similar to those available in South Korea, Taiwan, China, the United States and Australia.
It follows consultations from August to December 2017, with the various religious groups, after-death care service providers and the general public. The consultations for the provision of IAS covered areas such as design, user experience, and religious needs.
“There was also feedback that the user experience at the facility should be respectful and dignified, and that the facility should be secular and open to all faiths,” the NEA said.
NEA will be calling tenders from this year for the design and development of IAS at the two NEA-run facilities.
