Inside Prince George and Princess Charlotte's Upcoming School Year at Thomas's Battersea

From Town & Country

Prince George and Princess Charlotte are officially back in school—much to their father Prince William's relief—and they're looking at quite the year of learning. Both George and Charlotte will face significantly increased workloads as they enter Year 1 and Year 3, respectively.

Since last year, when Charlotte became old enough to join her brother, both of the school-aged Cambridge kids have attended Thomas's Battersea, a tony private institution in London. The school offers a well-rounded education, with core academic subjects taught alongside the arts and other enriching courses.

Charlotte finished her Reception (think Kindergarten) year last spring, and is now moving up to Year 1. According to the Thomas's Battersea website, this means she'll have formal homework for the first time; in addition to the 10-plus minutes of reading the Princess was already completing at home every day, she'll have a weekly spelling list to work on, as long as optional online math activities. "In Years 1 and 2, in addition to reading, homework tasks will focus on developing basic skills and knowledge in the core subjects," the school's policy explains.

During the daytime, she'll be diving into a wide range of studies. According to information that was listed on the Thomas's Battersea website as of last year, those include Literacy, Numeracy, Science, History and Geography, RS, French, PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education), Art, Computing, Music, Swimming, Ballet, PE, and Games.

Meanwhile, George finished his final year in the Lower School (that's Reception through Year 2) and is starting Year 3 in the Middle School. Homework-wise, that mean's he'll have 20 minutes of daily reading, in addition to 30 minutes per week of math, daily times tables practice, and 30 minutes of spelling per week, with some additional spelling practice on top of that.
