PNP Chief Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa believes the government will succeed in addressing the drug problem in the country with President Rodrigo Duterte’s creation of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD).

The PNP Chief said that through ICAD, the government would be able to enforce a holistic approach in its fight against illegal drugs.

Dela Rosa said the agency serves as the policy maker while the PNP and PDEA will be in charge of the operations.

“That is added instrument toward solving drug problem in the Philippines not as a hindrance to our normal and routine police operations,” said PDG Dela Rosa.

The police chief also clarified that PNP and PDEA need not coordinate all drug operations with ICAD.

“Not necessarily. As long as there is coordination with PDEA, coordination can be done before, during and after. As long as there is coordination, that would be okay,” the PNP Chief said.

Meanwhile, PNP Drug Enforcement Group director, PSSupt. Graciano Mijares, has begun coordinating with other government agencies like PDEA and AFP for their upcoming drug operations.

“After my assumption, I met with the director general of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency USec. Isidro Lapeña to strengthen our cooperation and coordinated efforts on the war against illegal drugs and assure the director general that the PNP drug enforcement group will work closely with the agency especially on high impact projects involving national and international syndicates and personalities involved in the production, importation and trafficking of illegal drugs including their protectors,” PSSsupt. Mijares said.

The police official also assured that all members of the new police unit have undergone thorough background investigation and are also undergoing continuous assessment.

Mijares said this is to avoid a repeat of the corrupt practices that carried out by AIDG personnel found involved in the killing of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo– Lea Ylagan | UNTV News & Rescue
