If you recently upgraded to a current-generation iPhone — namely an iPhone 12 or later — you can take advantage of a pretty slick new feature: magnetic wireless charging.

To be clear, wireless charging has been around since the iPhone 8, but only the latest models add magnets to the mix. There are several advantages to that, a key one being that when you place your phone on a charging pad, the magnets make absolutely sure it's positioned properly. (With non-magnetic pads, it's easy to "miss" the sweet spot.)

Apple sells its MagSafe Magnetic Charger for $39, a price that doesn't include the necessary AC adapter so you can actually plug it into a wall. That's another $19.

Here's a better deal: For a limited time, and while supplies last, the Wireless Future Charger magnetic wireless charging pad for iPhone drops to $16.50 when you apply promo code 50VO3WYP at checkout. That's 50 percent off the regular and one of the best deals I've seen. Better still, it includes an AC adapter.

There's not much more you really need to know about this except that you can apply the code to the White + PD or Black + PD version. ("PD" stands for Power Delivery, which describes the fast-charging standard employed by the wall plug.)

You may note that that plug delivers 15 watts of charging power, while Apple's promises 20 watts. But guess what? iPhones themselves can accommodate only 15 watts, so you're not missing out on anything.

If there's a caveat here at all, it's that Wireless Future Charger backs this with only a six-month warranty, not a full year like virtually all other electronics.

That wrinkle aside, this is definitely an affordable way to see what the magnetic-charging fuss is all about.
