Changing weather patterns in recent years have led to extreme weather events becoming more frequent, including dust storms, prolonged heat waves, drought, desertification, and reduced rainfall across the country. Iraq as the fifth most vulnerable country in the world to decreased water and food availability, extreme temperatures and associated health problems, according to the United Nations Environment Programme.
