Ivory's juggling catch caps 22-point St. Francis (PA) comeback to top Merrimack, 28-21
LORETTO, Penn. (AP) — Jayden Ivory made a juggling catch on a deep pass tipped by a defender and turned it into a 71-yard score and St. Francis (PA) beat Merrimack 28-21 on Saturday.
The play capped a 22-point fourth quarter.
Ty Yokum scored from the 1 to end an 11-play, 60-yard third-quarter drive that put the Warriors up 21-6 after three.
The Red Flashes (3-5, 3-2 Northeastern Conference) answered by driving 65-yards for a touchdown after Deondre Scott broke free from the 29 for the score.
St. Francis used a trick play from the 2, with Adrian Meija taking the handoff, then dropping a pass to wide-open quarterback, Nick Whitfield Jr. in the end zone. Scott ran it in for the two-point conversion to tie it at 21.
Whitfield underthrew Ivory and the defender got a hand on the ball for a tip as he fell, but Ivory pulled in the carom and raced untouched the final 35 yards for the go-ahead score.
Merrimack (4-4, 3-2) drove to the St. Francis 4, but on fourth down with :46 left Malakai Anthony's pass to the back corner of the end zone was broken up by linebacker William Middleton.
Whitfield threw for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Scott carried 11 times for 71 yards.
Tyvon Edmonds Jr. led Merrimack with 148 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. Anthony threw for 149 yards and a touchdown.
