Jacqueline Wilson’s books are about to get a makeover for the first time in 30 years - they’ll no longer feature the iconic drawings of illustrator Nick Sharratt.

The pair have worked together for three decades, and their final book, The Runaway Girls, set in Victorian London, is published next year. After that, it’s a blank canvas.

Nick is the man behind the much loved Tracy Beaker illustrations ever since The Story of Tracy Beaker in 1991. He’s drawn for every book in the series since, bringing the characters from the books to life.

Now, he’s focusing on his own work without Jacqueline - meaning her new work will look very different to what she’s known for.

"I've had a marvellous creative partnership with Nick for 30 years, and I'm deeply grateful to him for giving my books such eye-catching covers and incredible illustration — my latest book with him, The Runaway Girls is no exception," the author told The Bookseller.

"I can understand however that the time has come for him to concentrate on his own work. I shall be sad to say goodbye to Nick and our very special brand — but I'm excited about the forthcoming new look for my future books."

Nick has described the end of the partnership as “bittersweet”, but admitted it was time to let someone else take up the reigns.

"It's been an amazing experience illustrating Jacqueline's books and having the opportunity to create the images for extraordinary characters like Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather. Working with Jacqueline herself has been a delight. The editor who first brought us together had a feeling we'd hit it off, and he was right!”

Jacqueline and Nick’s final book The Runaway Girls will be published on 18 March 2021.
