Norway's Jansrud, Svindal go 1-2 in Val d'Isere

Norway's Kjetil Jansrud competes in the FIS Alpine World Cup Men Super G in Val d'Isere in the French Alps on December 2, 2015

Norway's Kjetil Jansrud won Friday's Super-G at Val d'Isere, for his 15th World Cup success, ahead of compatriot Aksel Lund Svindal and Italy's Dominik Paris. The 31-year-old Olympic champion clocked 1min 21.66sec to finish 0.17 ahead of Svindal, who was making his comeback after a 10-month injury layoff, with Paris at 0.41 in the first speed race of the season. It was his seventh win for Jansrud in the discipline which was switched to the French Alpine resort after lack of snow in the US resort of Beaver Creek, with last week's race in Lake Louise also cancelled. "Aksel and I fight every day in training and I knew he was back at his top level," said Jansrud. "It was very emotional in the final with my teammates. It didn't matter who won as long as he was a Norwegian." Svindal was making his comeback after injuring cruciate ligaments in his right knee during a fall in the downhill at Kitzbuehel, Austria last January. "I was very nervous. The surgeon and doctors advised me to end my career," said the 33-year-old.
