Jarred Brooks Targets Former ONE World Champ Alex Silva

ONE Championship newcomer Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks has a lot to say about the organization’s strawweight mixed martial artists, from current World Champ Joshua “The Passion” Pacio to former titleholder Alex “Little Rock” Silva.

Although Brooks has yet to compete in ONE, the American star has been watching the action very closely and believes he has a good sense of the division’s top athletes, including Silva.

“Alex is a rugged fighter,” Brooks said of the Singapore-based Brazilian. “He’s just a straight rugged fighter.”

Silva, who’s currently ranked #5 in ONE’s strawweight division, kicked off his career with the organization in 2012 when he dropped a decision loss to Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio.

However, the Evolve MMA standout bounced back and won his next six bouts, with five of them coming by submission. Along the way, he beat Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito to win the ONE Strawweight World Championship.

Brooks, despite acknowledging Silva’s ground game, was rather terse about the rest of the Brazilian’s arsenal.

“He has a lot of great jiu-jitsu. That’s all I got to say about him,” the American said.

When pried for further opinions, “The Monkey God” also suggested he knows how to beat Silva. He didn’t say exactly how he’d do it – just that he could get the job done.

“The formula’s out there to beat him. I think that he’s very beatable, but you got to watch out for him. He’s sneaky,” Brooks said.

Aside from “Little Rock,” Brooks has his eyes on the rest of the division. And no matter who he faces first, “The Monkey God” is looking to make a point when he enters the Circle.

“Everybody in ONE is sneaky, and they’re good, and they have a lot of great capabilities. And I can’t wait until I can showcase my talents and have everybody in that arena just shout,” Brooks said.

“I consider myself still the best in the world, so I’m going to put my heart and put my shield out there and show everybody what’s up.”
