Jason Francisco confirms split with Melai Cantiveros

The actor blames Cantiveros' onscreen partnership with Carlo Aquino for the separation

28 Jul - Amid rumours of trouble in paradise, actor Jason Francisco recently revealed that he and wife Melai Cantiveros have called it quits.

As reported on ABS-CBN News, in a series of posts published on the Instagram account under their child Mela Lucille's name, the "My Super D" actor admitted that the problem in their marriage started when Cantiveros accepted the offer to play a role in the Kapamilya series, "We Will Survive", which has recently concluded its broadcast.

The actor stated that while they had an initial agreement that Cantiveros will not have a partner in the series except during the pilot week, he found out two months later that his wife was partnered with Carlo Aquino on the show.

Francisco said that despite his request for the people behind the drama to end the love team, the production refused him and instead made his marriage issue the butt of a joke among themselves.

The actor admitted that the issue affected them so much that they began to give each other the cold shoulder and he moved out from their shared bedroom to another room.

"We have now separated. No more Melason," said Francisco.

The actor stated that they were unable to fix their marital problem, and that he is upset at how work has destroyed their family.

He also criticised the production, saying that they should be more sensitive and practice what they preach in their dramas about the importance of family.

The two stars, who started dating after starring in "Pinoy Big Brother" together, were married back in 2013, three months after Cantiveros announced her pregnancy.
