Jason Kelce Forgets a Shirt For His “Monday Night Football” Debut, Travis Jokes He's 'Surprised' Jason 'Didn’t Just Go Shirtless'

The retired Eagles player had to go shopping before his big debut

Jason Kelce did not disappoint with his Monday Night Football debut.

During the Monday, Sept. 9 broadcast, Kelce, 36, revealed a wardrobe mishap before the San Francisco 49ers took on the New York Jets at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clarita, Calif. The 49ers defeated the Jets 32-19.

After listing off Kelce's achievements - including winning a Super Bowl and co-hosting a successful podcast, New Heights with brother Travis Kelce - Scott Van Pelt told viewers that the former Philadelphia Eagles star was wearing a shirt he picked up from the mall earlier that day.

“All that said, Jason Kelce is wearing a shirt he got at the mall because he left his travel bag in the truck," Van Pelt said.

“It fits my belly now. I've lost a little bit of weight, but my tits are still struggling,” Jason replied.

Fellow commentator Ryan Clark replied, “The fact that a Hall of Fame center can shop at LuluLemon. That's big, man. That's a big accomplishment.”

ESPN shared the clip on Instagram, inviting fans of the retired Eagles player to join the joke, including Jason's brother.

"Surprised he even bought a new one, and didn’t just go shirtless," Travis wrote, referring to Kelce cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs shirtless during a playoff game in January.

The Instagram account for the brothers’ podcast also commented, playing into a previous joke about Jason forgetting a different piece of clothing.

“Why didn’t Jason bring a shirt for Jason?” read the New Heights comment.

The cheeky comment from the podcast follows the viral moment of Jason and Travis discussing Jason’s appearance at the Kelce premiere — the documentary following his 2022-23 season.

During the Sept. 13, 2023 podcast episode, Jason recalled for his brother, 34, that his casual attire was because his wife, Kylie, “was running late” and she was going to “bring the jeans.”

But Travis quickly retorted, “Why didn’t Jason bring jeans for Jason?”

Jason then tried to recover but conceded and said, “I’m realizing now I can’t blame this on Kylie.”

Before Kelce's MNF debut, he joked on Aug. 28 at Disney media day with an ESPN executive about whether he’d have to wear a suit during the broadcast.

"I’m very much, normally when I’m not at a professional setting or something that my image is representative of another company am I worried about what I wear," he said. "I wear what’s comfortable, what I think is functional, it’s something that I want to put on because it’s quite frankly easy to put on."
