ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Corporation (JCorp) handed over RM463,000 to Mercy Malaysia to carry out humanitarian and rehabilitation mission for people affected in the armed conflicts in the Middle East.
Mutiara Johor Corporation took the initiative to run campaign with the aim to contribute medicine, food and daily essentials for the people of Syria, Palestine and Yemen.
JCorp president and chief executive Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim handed over a mock cheque to Mercy Malaysia president Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus today.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin witnessed the handing over ceremony held at the Menteri Besar’s Office.
Also present were Mutiara Johor Corporation chairman Datin Noor Laila Yahaya.
Faizal said the contribution greatly helped in Mercy Malaysia’s continuous programme to provide primary healthcare and psycho-social treatment for children affected by the conflicts in those countries.
“It will help as Mercy Malaysia has sent three teams involved in missions in conflict areas including Aleppo, Syria.
“We are focusing psycho-social help, rehabilitation efforts and a programme to improve midwifery training among Syrians over there to address issues of infant deaths,” said Faizal.
