The acquisition enables Go-Jek drivers to earn extra income by having brands advertise on their vehicles, and even provide product samples in cars

Indonesian ride-hailing giant Go-Jek today announced that it has acquired Indonesian adtech startup Promogo for an undisclosed sum.

Promogo is a platform that enables brands to advertise on the body of individually owned vehicles.

In addition to that, the startup also provides a service that it described as “the equal of an in-flight entertainment services” in cars: Passengers will be able to watch movies or shows inside the cars, taste product samples, charge their phone batteries, use Wi-Fi, or pick up brochures.

For motorbikes, the advertisement will be placed on the back of the motorbike and the rider’s helmet.

The partnership between the two companies will enable drivers to earn extra income, while brands can have a more strategic way to reach out to their audience.

“Innovation on riding experiences tends to happen at the beginning and the end of a ride. We listen to the needs of our customers to make their riding experience more interesting. Through Promogo, we are able to provide our entertainment product Go-Ice and our on-the-go retail market Go-Vend where customers can buy daily necessities or receive free samples from leading brands inside a Go-Car vehicle,” said Promogo CEO and Founder Andrew Tanyono in a press statement.

In the same statement, Kapil Baldev Mathrani, Head of Fleet Monetization Go-Jek, said that by far there are already more than 50,000 Go-Jek driver-partners participating in the programme.

In Singapore this June, Grab also announced a similar partnership with US-based in-car goods and services provider for ride-hailing companies Cargo.

The partnership will enable Grab drivers to earn extra income by providing snacks, beverages, or even beauty products in their car for their passengers.
