Indonesian ride-hailing giant Go-Jek has been reported to have acquired local e-payment startup MVCommerce, which owns and operates mobile payment service PonselPay.

No words on the exact value of the acquisition yet, and what the two companies will work on next.

Jakarta-based MVCommerce provides mobile channels for conventional banks, particularly to reach out to the often-considered “unbankable” part of the society. Its service Ponsel Pay allows customers to perform mobile transactions via text messaging, as feature phone remains a favourite in some Southeast Asian markets.

Go-Jek itself operates Go-Pay as its cashless payment system, following a partnership with leading Indonesian banks such as BCA, Mandiri, and BRI. The company recently introduced a feature that allows customers to top up their Go-Pay credit by paying cash to the Go-Jek drivers.

This year, the ride-hailing startup has acquired three Indian startups, starting from CodeIgnition and C42 Engineering in February. Its latest acquisition in the country being home healthcare marketplace Pianta in September.

Go-Jek has also invested in HaloDoc, a sister company of drug delivery service ApotikAntar. The ride-hailing startup partners with ApotikAntar for its own drug delivery service Go-Med.
