Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck's $68M Home Was 'Ben's Idea' and a 'Major Compromise for Her': Source (Exclusive)
The pair purchased the Beverly Hills mansion in May 2023 for $60.8 million and publicly listed it for sale in July 2024, a month before Lopez filed for divorce
Jennifer Lopez was never a huge fan of the Beverly Hills mansion she shared with Ben Affleck, a source tells PEOPLE.
"The $68 million mansion was Ben’s idea and a major compromise for her," the source says of the estranged couple's marital home, which they purchased for a reported $60.8 million in May 2023 and publicly listed for sale just over a year later, in July 2024, for about 6 million more.
"She agreed to it because of its spacious layout, accommodating both their families, a gym and a pickleball court, office space, plus it has two private entrances," the source adds.
Affleck, 52, has three children — Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15 and Samuel, 12 — whom he shares with ex wife Jennifer Garner, and Lopez, 55, shares twins Max and Emme, 16, with ex husband Marc Anthony. The contemporary-style home had plenty of room for everyone, with 12 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms within its 38,000 sq. ft. footprint.
However, Lopez’s taste doesn’t usually lean ultra-modern, the source says: "She loves the romantic, Spanish, European vibe."
A second source counters the idea that Affleck was all-in on the house, and says it wasn't ideal for Affleck in another aspect: its location.
“His life’s in Brentwood. His kids live there," the source says. "It was such a pain and time consuming for Ben to navigate traffic from their house. He never liked it.”
The same source notes that the house Affleck rented this summer after moving out of their shared home was located in Brentwood.
The Atlas actress has been looking for a new home in Los Angeles since April, around the same time as the date of separation with Affleck listed on her divorce filing, PEOPLE previously reported.
"Jen is being shown houses," the source says, but hasn't found the one.
PEOPLE reported in June that Lopez and Affleck were quietly shopping their shared mansion off-market, a tactic often used in ultra-high-end real estate. Ultimately, the pair decided to publicly list the home the following month.
Affleck has since purchased a new house for himself for $20.5 million.
The five-bedroom property "is family-friendly, but it could easily be transformed into a bachelor pad," a source previously told PEOPLE. The neighborhood, which is home to a number of entertainment industry A-listers, "boasts a sophisticated crowd—it's not trendy,” per the source.

The “On the Floor” singer filed for divorce from the Argo director on the second anniversary of their traditional wedding ceremony held in Georgia on Aug. 20, 2022.
A source told PEOPLE in the wake of the filing that she "was done waiting."
"She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken," the source added. "The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
Lopez is expected to attend the Toronto International Film Festival in support of her new movie Unstoppable, which makes its world premiere at the festival on Friday, Sept. 6.
Affleck produced the film, a wrestling biopic inspired by the life of Anthony Robles, with his longtime friend Matt Damon and their company Artists Equity. Damon, 53, is also expected to attend the festival, while Affleck will likely be absent from its red carpet.
