Jennifer Lopez has been tapped to star in a TV adaptation of the musical "Bye Bye Birdie."

According to Variety, Lopez will star and also serve as executive producer. The live show will air as a holiday special on NBC in 2017.

The musical was first performed on Broadway in 1960 with Dick Van Dyke starring and was adapted into a feature film. It was also revived on Broadway in 2010 with John Stamos and Gina Gershon.

Inspired by the phenomenon of Elvis Presley, the musical revolves around rock star Conrad Birdie, who is drafted into the army, breaking the hearts of young teenage girls everywhere.

His manager and his manager's girlfriend Rosie plot to give him a final hurrah on "The Ed Sullivan Show," in which he kisses a randomly chosen high school girl goodbye before heading off to the army.

Lopez will play the role of Rosie.
