Jimmy Carter: Sexual Violence Impunity a 'Devastating Blow to Humanity'
Former US President Jimmy Carter gave a video address on June 13 to the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict, taking place in London from June 10-13. The summit is calling for an end to horrendous sexual crimes committed against women and children in conflicts around the world. It aims to launch a new International Protocol to help strengthen prosecutions for rape in conflict.
The summit is being chaired by British Foreign Secretary William Hague and Angelina Jolie, actress and Special Envoy for the UN High Commissioner. Here, President Carter highlighted those crimes and called for global powers to introduce adequate punishments for such crimes and end the impunity felt by perpetrators.
