Jodie Burrage stops opening match to help fainting ball boy at Wimbledon

Jodie Burrage didn’t think twice during her opening match at Wimbledon on Monday.

Burrage, during her match against Leisa Tsurenko, suddenly noticed a ball boy standing on the side of the court start to pass out. Instantly, she stopped the match and ran over to help — bringing him a blue Powerade, a gel pack and eventually some candy she got from someone in the stands.

The match was stopped for about 10 minutes before the ball boy was helped off the court.

"Just tried to get him some sugar, gave him a Gatorade and a gel. The gel is not the nicest thing, so they managed to find some Percy Pigs somewhere along the line in the crowd, which he got down and then started to feel better," Burrage said, via The Associated Press. "Hopefully he's feeling better now."

Thankfully, she said, there was someone in the crowd nearby with Percy Pigs — the British gummy candy that Burrage loves.

"I definitely love a Percy Pig, that's for sure," Burrage said, via The Associated Press. "I was just like, 'This kid needs sugar.' He wasn't liking the gel. I was like, 'Yeah, definitely need something else.'

“Someone just shouted on the side, 'Got some sweets here if you want.' They were Percy Pigs."

Burrage lost her match in straight sets, falling to Tsurenko 6-2, 6-3.

Though Burrage’s run in the singles tournament at Wimbledon is now over, she’ll compete in doubles later this week. The 23-year-old, who entered the tournament ranked No. 141 in the world, was competing in just her second career Grand Slam.

"I just reacted how I think anyone would. He was not in a good spot," Burrage said, via The Associated Press. "I just tried to help him out as much as possible."
