John Legend & Chrissy Teigen’s Newborn Was Named After Not One, But Two Important People

John Legend just shared the heartwarming story behind the name of his and Chrissy Teigen’s new daughter.

This week, Legend discussed the meaning of the baby’s moniker and revealed the child’s first name, Esti, is an indirect tribute to his great-grandmother. “It turns out, my great-grandmother was named Esther,” he told E! News.

The “All of Me” singer admitted that they didn’t intend to choose a family name. However, when Teigen pitched Esti as a potential baby moniker, they knew it was meant to be. Legend added, “It wasn’t intentionally after someone, but once Chrissy told me that idea, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother’s name was Esther.’”

Legend also confirmed that the baby’s middle name—Maxine—was inspired by his grandmother. “We wanted to already name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine,” the musician continued. “So, it’s a lot of my family in the name.”

If you recall, Legend and Teigen welcomed their third child last month. The couple introduced their new daughter by sharing a photo of their two elder children—Luna (6) and Miles (4)—holding baby Esti.

Teigen captioned the post, “She’s here! Esti Maxine Stephens—the house is bustling and our family could not be happier [heart emojits] Daddy sheds nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love, and I am learning you still need diapers with a c section!? We are in bliss. Thank you for all the love and well wishes—we feel it all! X.”

A few days later, Teigen posted the first picture of the newborn’s face. The caption read, “Look at u out here lookin like a baby.”

Cue the inevitable baby fever.
