JOHOR BARU: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar will confer Datukships to three people in conjunction with his birthday on Thursday.

Johor Council of the Royal Court president Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli said the ruler is firstly expected to bestow the Most Exalted Order of Sultan Ibrahim Johor First Class Dato' Sri Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (SMIJ) to one recipient.

The other two honours to be awarded are the Most Exalted Order of Sultan Ibrahim Johor Second Class (Commander) Dato Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (DMIJ); and Second Class (Commander) Dato Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (DMIJ).

Sultan Iskandar will accord awards and accolades to a long list of recipients, but Rahim said the full list of honourees will only be officially released tomorrow.

This is the first time in two years that the ruler will conduct an investiture ceremony in conjunction with his birthday.

The ruler forewent an investiture last year following the death of his son, Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil Sultan Ibrahim in Dec, 2015.

"The Sultan of Johor has decreed that the customary Levee Ceremony and Paying of Homage Ceremony will be carried out to revive Johorean royal traditions," said Rahim in a press conference at Bukit Timbalan.

He added that re-instating Johorean royal traditions will help the people feel closer to their ruler and more appreciative of the state's heritage.
