Jonas Gafud clarifies Pia Wurtzbach's Brunei issue

The beauty queen's manager stated that her host Kathelyn Dupaya has reached out to him

27 Apr - Pia Wurtzbach's manager Jonas Gafud has recently addressed issues regarding the beauty queen's recent trip to Brunei, and shared that everything has been resolved between them and Wurtzbach's host in the country, Kathelyn Dupaya.

According to Rappler, the issue sparked recently after Dupaya accused the former Miss Universe of giving her attitude during and after her stay in Brunei.

In a previous online post, Dupaya claimed that she invited Wurtzbach to Brunei after the beauty queen expressed her interest with the country upon seeing photos of Miss Philippines 2016, Maxine Medina, who was there on a vacation. Dupaya paid for the flight and accommodation for both Wurtzbach and her boyfriend, Marlon Stockinger, as well as several others with them.

Dupaya stated that she invited Wurtzbach to attend the soft opening of her spa, but was upset that the beauty queen couldn't attend it, although admitted that she didn't know she had to talk to Gafud or IMG about it.

She said that Wurtzbach pretended not to know about the spa opening and claimed that they didn't discuss it first. She added, "Hello, I spent for your trip and you even took the family of your boyfriend with you."

Dupaya later shared another post saying that she has discussed things with Gafud, and found out that the cause of the trouble was due to misunderstanding.

"I am so sorry for what I've said because I was very hurt and I believe Pia was also hurt. Both of us were hurt so we both said sorry for everything and we're only human and make mistakes. Sometimes when we're upset, we don't know what we say, that's why I'm so sorry if I said anything below the belt," she wrote.

On the other hand, Gafud said that he was prepared to respond to Dupaya's claims earlier, but was happy that she contacted him to clarify the issues.

"We learn from mistakes. I hope what happened will serve as a lesson for artistes, talents, managers and producers to formalise arrangements in order to avoid confusion and any problem," he added.
