KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 ― Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today verified news that authorities here had the body of Kim Jong-nam preserved through embalming.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also home minister, declined to provide further details.
“It's an effort to preserve the body because, if (it is) kept in the mortuary, it might decompose so we did this to preserve the body,” Ahmad Zahid told reporters outside the Parliament lobby today.
The News Straits Times earlier reported that the body belonging to the estranged half brother to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was embalmed on Sunday at a private facility.
It was also reported that the operation cost around RM20,000, but it was undetermined who paid for the procedure.
On February 13, Jong-nam was believed to have been assassinated by two women with the lethal VX nerve agent at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2.
