Joni Mitchell poses for Hedi Slimane

Photographer and Saint Laurent creative director Hedi Slimane has close ties to the world of folk, jazz and rock music. So it makes perfect sense that he chose to enter 2015 by revealing his portrait of Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, guitar in hand.

As part of his Saint Laurent Music Project, Hedi Slimane has already shot portraits of several rock, pop and blues legends, including Daft Punk, Marilyn Manson and Jerry Lee Lewis, just to name a few. Now the project has added one of folk music's greatest icons to the roster: Joni Mitchell.

The 71-year-old singer-songwriter posed for the stylist and photographer at her home in Bel Air, California. She wears a folk-style tunic by Saint Laurent along with a custom-made leather cape and a wide-brimmed black hat.

Since the start of the project, the portraits have been presented in the same two-page format. On the left is a white page with the words "Saint Laurent - Joni Mitchell - Paris" in black, and the portrait is displayed on the right.
