Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard were involved in a tetchy touchline altercation during Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup tie between Tottenham and Chelsea.

The two managers exchanged heated words from across their respective technical areas, with the Spurs boss seemingly unhappy at Lampard’s animated behaviour.

At the time, the Blues were leading the fourth-round meeting 1-0 thanks to summer signing Timo Werner’s first competitive goal for the club.

The pair are old friends, with Lampard having been a key part of the success of Mourinho’s Chelsea teams in the mid-2000s, winning the Premier League in 2004/05 and 2005/06.

It is not the first time in Lampard’s relatively brief managerial career that he has gotten involved in a touchline confrontation with a more experienced counterpart.

At the back end of last season, the 42-year-old clashed with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp during a Premier League meeting at Anfield, one played after the Reds had already been crowned top-flight champions.
