Joyce Bernal Pressured Over Ratings Of ‘Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw’

19 January 2013

Director Joyce Bernal is all fired up in making the Kris Aquino-Robin Padilla-Anne Curtis starrer "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw" a hit since she knows that ABS-CBN is on a roll after the phenomenal success of its most recent top-rater, "Walang Hanggan."

"Tapos ang lalaki pa ng talent fee ng mga stars ko dito so nakakahiya naman kung ganun ang ginastos ng network tapos mababa lang ang ratings, 'di ba? Na-o-overwhelm ako sa laki ng series na ito. Kahit gastos pa lang ang pag-usapan, malaking investment na talaga," Joyce told Bulletin Entertainment and select members of media right after the celebrity and media screening of the pilot week of the upcoming TV series.

She also finds it challenging that Kris and Robin took on characters that are far from who they are in real life.

"Si Robin, hindi siya...masyadong Robin dito. And ibig kong sabihin, hindi niya pinu-push magpakilig.

"Si Kris naman, grabe kasi talaga ang presence niya. In real life, 'pag nagsalita siya, people listen, may authority siya. Dito, dahil nga medyo reserved 'yung character niya, hinanapan namin ng way na kahit ganun ay may weight naman ang mga linya niya."

And Anne?

"She came prepared," Joyce quipped. "Alam niya 'yung timpla na kelangan."

"Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw" tells the story of two sisters, Roxanne (Kris) and Ruth (Anne), who fall for policeman Bogs (Robin) one after the other and under different circumstances. As pointed out by the creators of the show, it is not a remake of an old movie of the same title but an entirely different story. The series that's set to premiere tomorrow, Jan. 21, is being co-directed by Malu Sevilla.

Joyce shared that Robin was also involved in making his scenes come out right. At one point, they had to shoot a scene twice, according to how each saw it fit. The best one, Joyce said, was the one that won out.

"I just hope I'm able to measure up to the standards that ABS-CBN has set when it comes to making teleseryes. Alam naman natin ang produkto ng Kapamilya, hindi basta-basta," Joyce said.
